Road trip....

Isn't that a lovely mural for a roadside restaurant to have? I want one!

There is roadside restaurant called Kamat Lokaruchi, on the highway from Bangalore to Mysore, in India. I have stopped here a few times to hog on south Indian food, specifically, banana leaf food. The place is excellent and cheap but who knows what popularity will do to it in the future.

Different curries and vegetable mixes are ladled onto your banana leaf and they keep coming around to ladle more till you beg them to stop. It is here that I discovered that an idli ( a type of savoury cake made of a fermented rice and lentil mixture which is steamed in a special round, steel idli moulds) can also be steamed in a palm leaf wrapping, which gives it a special flavour and colour.

It's divine and you dip it in a lentil soup or in a chutney of coconut or tomatoe or...mmmmmm, yummilicious!

Why Food Porn?

I have always been fascinated by food - the textures, aromas, colours, amazing fusions and sheer variety of ingredients and dishes.....It is a vital part of my memory of events as I can recall what food I ate at a particular moment in my past. For many years now, I have been reviewing for TripAdvisor and bombarding my hapless friends with an almost pornographic array of food photographs. I knew that I could do better in tailoring my tastes ( no pun intended) to a more appreciative audience, which is the reason behind this blog. The advent of smart phones with cameras means that my obsession with food is now documented anywhere and everywhere. I hope that through my vision, you can enjoy a perusal into the amazing diversity of human imagination and eating habits as I eat my way around the world and in the city where I live, Barcelona. My aim is to convey the beauty of food- for it is more than a physical need - along with the setting behind and around it and maybe, a small story or two along the way :-)

I would like to warn you that my passion for food is not matched by my expertise at taking photographs but, I still hope that my enthusiasm will more than make up for my lack of skill!

Me!
